Dorset Things

Well, so far today I've spilled an entire cup of coffee (what would have been my first one of the day) all over my newly fixed camper floor, made some personal decisions about letting go of a relationship, if you could have even called it that, from my life, and highly regretted packing my underbed storage in the dark last night because now I have to get out of my van in my jammies to find anything to wear today. Its 9am.

How's your day going?

I did have a fantastic weekend though. I went down to Dorset to catch up with friends and managed to spot a few places to look out and visit in the future.

On Thursday last I got as far as Newbury and found a remote dog walkers car park to stop over in. Not my usual scene, but there were other vans there when I arrived at 9pm, so didn't seem too murdery. It was a very wet and windy night though, so I was awake and disturbed earlier than I would ever wish for. Also, everyone had already gone when I woke up, so that was weird as I didn't hear them drive past me. Maybe aliens.

Most annoying, the weather was supposed to improve by early morning and I was annoyed that the weather wasn't keeping its promises. Every time I checked throughout the morning the good weather just pushed back a further hour, presumably until we just got to next winter, so I gave up the idea of visiting the places close by I had wanted to.

In the meantime I had been reliably informed it was, in fact, nice on the South Coast. So, I packed up and just headed for my destination.

By the time I reached the Hampshire/Dorset border it was actually sunny and borderline warm.

The afternoon and evening were largely food and drink oriented. The one thing I particularly miss about living in Dorset was the abundance of good places to eat. Norfolk is quite boring by comparison. Unless you like seafood (I don't) or extremely predictable pub fare, it is in no way comparable.

Saturday was an adventure with company day, of sorts. We stopped for food only a couple of hours after breakfast, but it's fair to say it was worth it. I had a rose latte and a biscoff and banana loaf, which definitely was worth the slightly uncomfortable belt setting.

After a meandering drive around the countryside I came upon Danebury Hill Iron Age Fort which required further investigation. Amazing space for dog walking and two free car parks, so definitely somewhere I'll stop again. The hill fort offered some wonderful views of the surrounding area and by now the weather had had a word with itself and it was very comfortable out. Met a Border Collie pup that I became emotionally attached to in 3.5 seconds. Also managed to log another benchmark, so my inner nerd was quietened for the afternoon.

The hill fort is very close to the Army Flying Museum for those of that persuasion, and probably also a good back up if the weather turns.

Saturday evening was all about the food, as I got to go back to one of my favourite places to eat. I was a bit edgy on this occasion and didn't have the exact same meal I've ordered on my previous three visits. Go me.

Some drinking followed, including a Cuban rum recommended by our waiter which was served slightly warmed and turned out to be much more palletable than neat rums I have tried in the past.

Sunday was an admin day for the most part, but later on I was invited to join in on an Indian takeaway, which I realised I haven't actually had in a long while. note to self I need to get Indian food more often.

Monday it was time to start making my way back to Cambridgeshire, as my van was booked in at my Dad's workshop. I took a very leisurely drive back and thankfully the M25 was behaving itself better than it had done previously, so actually made pretty good time.

Now, it's Wednesday, and I'm trying to forget my rather unappealing start to the day. I have some domesticated things to do the next couple of days, but I'm hoping in between I will get some work done.

Having released the first digital magazine for the project over the weekend, I'm actually excited to start writing the next one. It's been an emotional rollercoster tbh. On one hand I've had some very supportive emails from people that have bought and read it. On the other, people that should be my biggest fans haven't even looked at it or made comment on its existence. I guess this is one of those situations where you get to see in black and white whose on your team. It hurts, but it helps the decision come along as to what who I give my energy to in the future, and that's so valuable.

Anyway, that's why I haven't done any recognisable work in the last week, but I'm back on it now.... After I get back from grocery shopping.

Take care, all x
